Default UK: road tax, help please?

Hi! I've spied an old mini in my neighbourhood for sale, it's a non-runner and it's up for £100. It's in fairly good condition but it is in need of some TLC and I'd love to get it going again.I have no off-road parking where I live. My question is, to keep it outside on the street it obviously needs to be taxed. I'm happy to do this, but I was just wondering if I am actually going to be able to do this seeing as it's a non-runner? It's in one piece, but it is just generally scruffy and I'd work on it in my spare time, but I would make sure it didn't turn into an eyesore! Thanks.

It doesn't need to run to have road tax - if it is on the road - it needs tax

Unfortunately to have it on a public road it needs tax insurance AND an MOT - can you rent somewhere to store and work on it?

Taxing it just gives you the right to keep it on the road, doesn't matter if it doesn't run.

Hmm that's a toughy. As far as I know you'll need an MOT to tax it. If it's not running then I'm guessing this won't be possible. Can you keep it at a friend or family members house while you get it going? Declare it as SORN, and get it off the road. Once it's roadworthy you can get the MOT/tax sorted (Then park it in front of your house to finish the job).x

No - in order to get it taxed you'll need a valid mot and insurance, how are you going to get an mot on it? you need to declare it off the road with sorn and park it elsewhere
